A family run farm with camping and luxury hot tub glamping, surrounded by the beautiful green rolling hills of the Yorkshire Dales, Catgill lies in a gorgeous setting with jaw dropping views and a fantastic location with loads to do nearby for all the family. Retaining much of its original charm, it has become a firm favourite and has proved to be a massive hit since opening its doors in 2014. Named as “one of Britain’s top 5 coolest campsites” by the Telegraph newspaper it’s easy to see why; a large camping field with ehu, 5* toilet block, 6 bespoke luxury timber pods and 2 huge bell tents all with private log fuelled hot tubs, fire pits and pizza ovens. Located in Bolton Abbey, the farm has lovely laid back feel and you can be sure of a warm welcome from the owners and their super friendly staff who are always happy to go the extra mile. Oh, and don’t forget to call in at their quirky coffee shop for a delicious barista made coffee and warm croissant!

Camping

Choose between ehu or non ehu pitches all are within easy access of the large, high quality toilet and shower block which has ample amounts of hot water and a kitchen washup area with 3 communal fridge freezers. For non ehu pitches choosing your own pitch on the day is all part of the fun and wherever you choose you will be sure of an amazing view. Ehu pitches are prebooked and are located in some of the best parts of the campsite. Keep warm and toasty around the fire pit (available to hire from reception for £20 for 2 nights) whilst the kids spend hours burning off energy in the small stream and woodland that meanders through the camping field. A natural and safe playground, this campsite is perfect for families.

Glamping

If you’re looking for a more luxurious stay you won’t find better glamping options than those at Catgill where it seems the owners have thought of every little detail. Their woodland themed bell tents and timber pods are truly unique, set on the edge of mature woodland with overhanging trees in a secluded location. The outside space has been cleverly designed to take full advantage of the amazing views and it doesn’t matter whether you are in your private hot tub, lounging in the comfy chairs, toasting marshmallows around the fire pit or enjoying a family meal at the large dining table you will be blessed with some of Yorkshires finest scenery for as far as the eye can see.

Timber Pods

These are no ordinary timber pods! Designed by owner Oliver, who is also an architect, they are much bigger than most and are completely bespoke. Fully insulated with central heating, everything in these spacious timber pods is of the highest quality with facilities and equipment to rival the best of holiday cottages. Sleeping up to 6 people they boast an impressive specification and include an ensuite, kitchen, Wifi, TV with Netflix, sofa, dining table and bunk beds that kids love. As darkness falls, dim the lighting to create a soothing and romantic atmosphere where you can truly unwind with your loved ones.

Bell Tents

For those that prefer and under canvas experience there are 2 giant luxury bell tents which are fitted out to the highest standard and share their own private toilet and shower. From cooking equipment to fairy lights and hot water bottles, these bell tents have everything you need. Featuring a log burner, heater, a large driftwood bed and futons for the kids, they can sleep up to 4 people. They even have a sink with running water, electric and wifi! This is glamping at its finest, all the joys of camping with all your creature comforts thrown in, creating a happy and relaxed atmosphere for the whole family.

Location

It doesn’t get much better than this! Forget the car as soon as you arrive, whatever you’re into, there is so much to do right on the doorstep. Bolton Abbey is a 15 minute gentle walk and has tea rooms, visitor shop and of course the famous 12th century ruins of the priory set next to the river Wharfe with stepping stones and sandy beach. Hesketh Farm Park is literally on the doorstep offering tractor tours, animal feeding and much more. The “Dev” pub is a 10 minute walk across the fields and serves good food and local ales. Billy Bob’s American Diner is popular for breakfast and features a kid’s play barn. Bolton Abbey steam railway is just over the hill with the route meandering through the Yorkshire hills to Embsay where the Cavendish Arms is well worth a stop off.

Close to the Dalesway footpath, Catgill has much to offer for walkers and cyclists along with many local attractions for families. There are a number of picturesque towns and villages within easy reach such as Skipton, Ilkley and Grassington, all with a variety of friendly pubs, award winning restaurants, coffee shops and many local seasonal events. Catgill is a perfect location for either an action packed family holiday or a peaceful and relaxing break.

Reviews

  • We had a great time at Catgill. Such a well thought out place and has everything you need. We spent hours in the hot tub and the fire pit was awesome! Better still it had a pizza oven built into it. Our pizzas did take a little while to cook though. The pods are really high quality and have plenty of space. The staff are really helpful and went the extra mile. Would highly recommend and will definitely return next year. Thanks Catgill! David sellers, Leeds
