Eden Camp is a family owned and run business that started over 30 years ago.

Since Stan Johnson opened Eden Camp in 1987, in the buildings and grounds of an original World War Two Prisoner of War Camp, a unique historical site has been given new life by developing the museum into an award-winning attraction for all the family, that is both entertaining and educational.

Through close collaboration with veterans groups we’ve created immersive displays that cover both social and military history and our archive has grown into a resource of national historical importance.

We’ve made significant improvements to the original site over time, with recent complete refurbishments of our café and gift shop and much more planned over the coming years.

  • A return visit after 28 years didn't disappoint...

I first visited in the early 90s on a Primary School trip and it was my best school trip!

My family had stayed for a couple of nights in Scarborough and thought we'd embrace the opportunity to visit with my family (husband, 2 children age 8 + 10). It was only a 40min car journey away. Whilst in Scarborough we picked up a 'Visit Yorkshire' booklet that had a money off voucher inside too.

We all loved it. We arrived at 10.30am and left at 3pm. The 'guess the name' quiz sheet kept the children embraced with the huts and the added playground games positioned between the huts and adventure playground made it even more enjoyable.

There are plenty of picnic benches both indoors and outdoors or a very nice canteen to eat in. The chips were delicious. There is a gift shop on site too and my children managed to use their £2.50 each spending money on a little momento. There were things priced under £1 also.

I'm so pleased my children enjoyed it as much as I did 28 years ago! People must remember it is a museum though, and if the children aren't patient at waiting their turn and being respectful of elderly taking a little longer to look at things then this isn't the place for them. There is lots of information on offer both from visual displays and reading materials.

Advice for people visiting is to remember a lot of time is spent outdoors walking between the huts so dress accordingly and bring layers. The car park wraps around the huts so you don't have to carry food/drink around with you it can be easily retrieved without leaving the complex.

  • Great trip out with the kids

Having enjoyed this as a child myself, I am now taking my own children (6 and 2). It still doesn't disappoint, and only this time did I realise it was actually a POW camp. My eldest got through 2 thirds of the musuem without once saying she was bored, probably due to the immersive lifelike displays which teach them plenty without them having to read much. Some huts are a bit scary for younger children but it makes you appreciate what it was like. The site itself is fairly small so no tired legs, and plenty of places for picnics. The addition of the large play area was great too. All the staff were really friendly and we had a great few hours here. Would return just to read more of the info - much more than you can digest with two kids in tow!

  • Fantastic - full range of emotions

This place is simply stunning! A former WW2 P.O.W. camp which has been transformed brilliantly into a theme museum, using the original huts. Although I am slightly too young to have experienced WW2, my parents and older siblings aren't and my father fought in the war, so I have knowledge (if not memories) of events and lifestyle. This museum brings them all to life, then goes on to more modern conflicts of which I, as an ex-serviceman, do have experience. The exhibits and photographs are excellent and will stir the emotions.
The cafe and gift shop are excellent, the toilets are free and clean.
Allow yourself plenty of time! We stayed there for nearly 6 hours and I think there were still things we didn't see, but we will go back some day!

  • Authentic , fab day out.

Great outdoor museum housed in an original prisoner of war camp , something for everyone , dog friendly good toilet facilities and parking . Great cafe serving good old fashioned snacks and food just wish they’d play a variety of songs they had “Boogie woogie bugle boy” on a loop while we ate
