The Bronte sisters wrote their famous novels just a few miles away in Haworth and the American poet, Sylvia Plath is buried at Heptonstall on the hill overlooking Hebden Bridge. The poet Laureate Ted Hughes was also born in  Mytholmroyd, two miles away.
