Bedale
Home > Bedale | Bedale, a small historical market town is also known as the Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales. Records of local history can be found in the town centre museum located within Bedale Hall. The museum depects the life of the ordinary people of Bedale throughout the centuries with exhibits including the 1748 Bedale hand-drawn fire engine. Admission is free. |
| The Leech House is a Grade II listed bulding owned by English Heritage and originally used by the local Apothecary for the storage of leeches. The Leech House itself is only open to the public on heritage days, although visitors are welcome to use the garden most days. |
| Every Tuesday Bedale's Market Place becomes a hive of activity with the weekly market. The Market Place itself contains a variety of local shops, many with original Georgian facades and large areas of free parking on the cobbled streets. There are guest houses and pubs which offer bed and breakfast as well as holiday cottages set in the beautiful Herriot Country for self-catering accommodation. |  |
| A regular local bus service operates to many of the surrounding villages and towns. For a more relaxed trip around this beautiful part of Herriot Country there is a tourist railway service from Bedale to Leyburn run by the Wensleydale Railway (www.wensleydalerailway.com) |
