Austwick

Home > Austwick

Austwick is a small village set on the outskirts of the Yorkshire Dales close to Settle and Clapham. Popular with geologists, cavers and walkers, its most fascinating attraction is a group of boulders, the 'Norber Erratics' which were deposited on eroding limestone pedestals by the retreating Crummackdale Glacier at the end of the last Ice Age, about 18,000 years ago.
Rock Climbers in particular, flock to Austwick to the outdoor activities centre which also offers accommodation. The village boasts an award winning hotel and restaurant while the nearby Dales provide camping sites and self catering holiday cottages.
